How To Make Homemade Crumb Sandwiches?

How To Make Homemade Crumb Sandwiches?

If you are Argentinian, you must know that crumb sandwiches are a classic at any event. You’ll find them at birthday parties, Sunday teas and plenty other social occasions. Some choose to toast them and have them for breakfast, others have it cold in sandwiches. The most common crumb sandwiches are those filled with ham and cheese, tuna, egg and vegetables.

Unlike other meals, and even though preparing them isn’t complicated at all, it is much more usual to buy them than to make them at home. Anyway, the truth is that if you live abroad it might be difficult for you to find these types of sandwiches in a food market or supermarket. This is why we are going to share with you the steps to prepare them on your own.

First things first: Where can I buy crumb bread?
On our website you can find white crumb bread and black crumb bread to make your crumb sandwiches. Also available on our international store are ingredients you can add to the sandwiches’ fillings, such as cheese, sausages and hearts of palm, among others.

Let’s move onto the KEY to making these sandwiches absolutely delicious: humidity.
This can be achieved by adding butter or mayonnaise to the bread. Here you can find a wide variety of classicolive or vegan mayonnaise that will give a special taste to your crumb sandwiches. In case you decide to use mayonnaise, make sure you mix it with a cup of water (although some might recommend doing it with milk). If you end up choosing butter, you should mix 100 grams of butter with 60 milliliters of water and a pinch of salt.

Step-by-step preparation

1. Place the crumb bread on a wooden board or any other well-dried and clean surface.
2. Lightly spread butter or mayonnaise on each slice of crumb bread.
3. Add the ingredients you want to use as filling.
4. Put the sandwich lid on by placing the part that has been moistened facing the ingredients. If you wish, you can press with a board on top to make them thinner.
5. Make sure the edges of the sandwich are neat by cutting out any leftover ingredients.

Now they're ready to eat! You can have them however you prefer: single, double, or even triple.

We suggest that you eat them during the day so they are fresh. In the case you decide to store them for a few hours, make sure to cover them so they don’t dry out.
