How to Eat Like an Argentinean?

How to Eat Like an Argentinean?

Argentina has many traditions, from food to cultural and social. Gathering and company are not missing in a good Argentine meal. In this post, we already told you about Argentine food and all the tips to prepare it and where to get its ingredients. However, to eat well but well Argentinean, it is necessary to know the traditions, not only to know what to cook.

That's why we will tell you what an Argentinean reunion would be like:

How many people get together?
The meeting always (or almost always) involves many people, we need many people talking and shouting anecdotes, almost one on top of the other, and a very long table, otherwise, it is not a good Argentine meeting.

So to honor this Argentine experience, you can get together with some friends, with your family or both. Besides, these meetings usually take place on Sundays, because most people do not work that day, or on a Saturday.

What time does the meeting start?
The meeting starts early, around 11:00 a.m., and we start sharing the Mate with biscuits and cookies or their traditional sandwiches. And that's just breakfast, because if there is something that is left over in Argentine meetings is food. People eat so much that sometimes there is no room left for dinner.

At 12.30 p.m., we move on to a picada. We leave the mate and move on to Fernet con coca, a classic Argentine drink with lots of ice, 30% Fernet, an herbal alcoholic beverage, and 70% Coca Cola, or another cola drink (although for many, using another drink is almost sacrilege). The facturas are left out, and we move on to a salami with cheese, and various salty snacks.

It is almost a law to eat asado or bbq as it is called in other countries, although it is not exactly the same thing. You can get the meat cuts, very Argentinean, here with shipping all over the USA.

The ritual of lighting the fire starts much earlier, since preparing the asado takes a few hours. While the meat is cooking, people gather around the fire with mate, chatting and accompanying the asador.

Lunch is eaten at about 2 p.m. Lunch also takes some time. Meat, choripan with chimichurri, other sausages and several salads are eaten, to have options for all the members of the family. To drink a good wine or a Fernet and coke, some recommend not to mix drinks.

After a long after-dinner chat, discussions and laughter, the afternoon comes to an end and the mate is served again. To accompany the rounds of mate, cakes, chocolates or piononos with lots of dulce de leche are added. Let's say it's a mixture of dessert and tea time.

You know, to have a good Argentinean day, get together with lots of people, with lots of Argentinean food, which you can get in our website, and get ready for a long day of chats and laughs.
