El concepto de pebete procede del catalán pevet y tiene varios usos. En Argentina y en Uruguay, así se denomina a un pan que se caracteriza por su esponjosidad y por su corteza tostada. El pebete se elabora con harina de trigo candeal.
Pebete is a small bread typical of the Argentine and Uruguayan gastronomy, also called "pebete bread" or "bread of Vienna". It is oval in shape, toasted and fine rind, spongy crumb and is made with candeal wheat flour. Its name comes from toasted white bread.
