What is Sweetness Week? And why is it celebrated in Argentina?
For many years now, sweetness week has been celebrated from the 1st to the 7th of July in Argentina. The purpose of this celebration is to give sweets, chocolates, alfajores, gummies and more to friends, partners and family members.
When was this celebration born?
Although today it is already considered one of Argentina’s annual celebrations, this was initially promoted by a brand. In 1898, Arcor -a very famous company, known for its great variety of candies- launched a marketing campaign that relied on the phrase: "a candy for a kiss".
At the time, its main objective was to promote the sales of sweets. The week was so successful in taking over the hearts of people that it was finally installed as a tradition in Argentine society.
Which treats are the most chosen this week?
The Bon o Bon, a chocolate bonbon filled with peanut butter paste, is one of the most representative products of this celebration. According to a portal specialized in kiosk sales, called Infokioscos, the best-selling product during Sweetness Week is the triple alfajor or triple mini cake. Following these are chocolate tablets and different chocolate snacks. Other products that are sold in great quantities during this time of the year are candies, lollipops and gummies.
